Metropolis İonia II: Yolların Kesiştiği Yer, Batı Anadolu Arkeolojisi'ne adanan bir hayatın anısına, Prof. Dr. Recep Meric icin yazılmış makaleleri ve anı yazılarını icermektedir. Recep Meric, 1966 yılında Ankara Universitesi Dil ve Tarih Coğrafya Fakultesi, Klasik Arkeoloji Bolumu'nden mezun olduktan sonra 1969-1971 yılları arasında ilk mesleki tecrubesini Efes Muzesi'nde asistan olarak yaşadı. 1977 yılında Viyana Universitesi'nde doktora eğitimini tamamladı. İzmir Dokuz Eylul Universitesi'nde 1983 yılında docent, 1988 yılında profesor unvanını aldı. Recep Meric 2007 yılından bu yana gorevine Yaşar Universitesi'nde devam etmektedir. Oğrencilik ve akademisyenlik hayatı boyunca farklı arkeolojik calışmalar icinde yer alan Recep Meric 1964-1971 yıllarında oğrenci olarak Sardes Kazıları'nda calışmıştır. 1972-1975 yılları ise Metropolis'te ilk yuzey araştırmalarına başladığı donemdir. 1985-1992 yıllarında yedi yıl boyunca Philadelphia (Manisa/Alaşehir) kazısını yurutmuş, 1992'de Metropolis Kazıları'na başlamış, 2006'da emekli olana kadar Metropolis'in bilim dunyasında tanınmasını sağlayacak onemli calışmalarda bulunmuştur ve calışmaları halen devam etmektedir. Bu kitaptaki makaleler, Meric'in geniş calışma alanına paralel olarak Onasya Arkeolojisi'nden, Gec Antik Donem'e kadar farklı donemleri ve konuları icermektedir. Makaleler Recep Meric'i tanıyan, herhangi bir yerde ve nedenle onunla yolları kesişmiş olan meslektaşları ve oğrencileri tarafından hazırlanmıştır.
Metropolis Ionia II: The Land of the Crossroads, contains papers dedicated to the honor of Prof. Recep Meric, a life devoted to the archeology of Western Anatolia. In 1966 Prof. Meric's career in archeology began as an assistant at the Museum of Ephesus following his degree from the Department of Classical Archaeology at Ankara University. He remained in that position at the Museum until 1971 only to go to Vienna, Austria to finish his Ph.D. program and he received his doctorate degree at the University of Vienna in 1977. In 1983 he became an associate professor at Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) in Izmir where he finally became a full-time professor in 1988. Prof. Meric taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the same university until 1999; and he founded the Department of Archaeology of DEU. Since 2007 he has been teaching at Yaşar University on the heels of his resignation from DEU. Recep Meric has a vast field experience at various sites in the west of Asia Minor, including Sardis excavations between 1964 and 1971 and Metropolis surveys between 1972 and 1975. He conducted the excavations of Philadelphia (Manisa/Alaşehir) for seven years from 1985 to 1992. Meric started up initial excavations at Metropolis in 1992. He dearly contributed, to the fame of Metropolis in the science community until his retirement in 2006, and continues to contribute. Papers included in this volume overarch various times and topics from Near Eastern Archaeology up to the Late Antiquity, parallel to extensive interdisciplinary concept of work that Recep Meric was very proud of. They have been prepared by colleagues and students who were closely familiar with Recep Meric and worked together at any time in his lifetime in any place of the intersection of the roads.
